Malaysia Authentic Craft

Pewter is an alloy composed of tin and other metals. The molten metal which is 'lead-free' today, is poured into preheated steel mould, filed and polished. The more complicated item are cast in several parts and soldered together so effeciently that one find is difficult to detect the joints.

The majority of the pewter's products are still hand-made and make fabulous gift and momentous today.

The sape' (sampek, sampeh, sapek) is a traditional lute of many of the Orang Ulu or "upriver people", mainly the Kayan and Kenyah community who live in the longhouses that line the rivers of Central Borneo. Sapes are carved from a single bole of wood, with many modern instruments reaching over a metre in length.
