Filigree is widely used to fashion intricate jewelry which is a favorite among the womenfolk.

There are several stages in the process making of filigree.  Pieces of silver are smelted in a crucible and processed to become a silver roll.  The roll is then drawn into a wiring machine for the flattening process into thin sheets.

With the aid of a winch and chain, the silver is passed through a series of holes of decreasing size in an iron frame until the desired diameter of less than a millimeter is reached.  The wire is initially coiled, twisted and braided into a variety of design components, and further shaped with tweezers and pliers to fit into a heavier wire outline.  If desired, the wires may be wired and flattened by placing a piece of wood over the design and tapping it with a few firms but gentle blows with a hammer.

These process is done repeatedly and alternately gilded.  Later the filigree is rolled flat with a pair of tweezers and shaped to become an oval.  The process is continued to form an outline on an iron mold, pasolan, after which the filigree is put through a silver frame one by one and soldered so that it does not come off easily.

The stigma is pasted in the middle of the flower petal and the edge of the petal is shaped with hand to become a flower.  The filigree item is boiled in a little pulverised alum or borax to rid of impurities and brushed with fine copper wire and detergent so that it looks brilliant with a flawless sheen.  Quality checks are carried out to ensure that it meets the required standards.

The use of filigree is not confined to personal use only but is also made into souvenir items, decorations on weapons and royal regalia.  Many exclusive products like ear rings, necklace and kite replicas are gaining a place in the local and foreign markets.

Barangan Filigree memaparkan peralatan perhiasan diri yang menjadi kegemaran kaum wanita.

Proses pembuatan filgree dilakukan peringkat demi peringkat.
